In this Privacy and Information Security Center you will find:
Pipl brand is owned and operated by Pipl, Inc., and Pipl’s (“Pipl”, “Pipl”, “we”, “our” or “us”) privacy policy was built with both its usefulness and your privacy in mind. This privacy policy applies when you visit or use our website and/or our Services. This privacy policy may be updated and will be posted on Pipl’s website (pipl.com/privacy-center).
“Personal Information” means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual. We may collect the following types of Personal Information:
For the purpose of this Privacy Notice, unless otherwise specified, “Personal Information” means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual. In connection with the provision of the Services, we obtain Personal Information relating to you in the situations described below.
Cookies: Pipl may use cookies, pixels, beacons, local storage and similar technologies (“Tracking Technologies”) in an effort to improve the quality of our Services and your interactions with our web sites. A Cookie is a small data file that is sent to your computer when you first visit a website. Cookies usually include an identification number that is unique to the computer you are using. Such identifiers can help us better understand our users and how they are using the website and the Services, and track affiliate referrals. Cookies can improve the quality of our service (e.g. recognizing a user when they visit the site, displaying the site according to the user’s chosen user settings for language, and maintaining the security of the user’s account); and help us provide relevant information and offers to our customers and prospects. If you prefer, you can reset your browser so that it refuses all cookies or notifies you when a cookie is being sent. In such a case, your browser will send us a special signal to stop tracking your activity. You can learn more and turn off certain third party targeting and advertising cookies by visiting the following third-party webpages:
Web Beacons: We may also use web beacons, small graphic images, or other web programming code which may be included in our Web pages and e-mail messages. We may use Web beacons (or similar technologies) to count visitors to our web pages, and to monitor how users navigate our web pages, among other legitimate business purposes.
Log files, IP addresses, URLs, embedded scripts, and similar data: We gather certain information automatically to administer the Services and analyze trends in the aggregate. This information may include IP addresses (or the proxy server a business Customer uses to access the Services), device and application identifiers, browser type, Internet service provider, the pages and files viewed, searches conducted, operating system and system configuration information, and date/time stamps associated with usage. Also, Pipl automatically receives the URL of the Web site from which a business Customer came. This information is used to analyze overall trends, and to provide and improve the Services. For example, Pipl collects IP addresses from Customers when they log into the Services as part of security features to confirm identity or detect compromised accounts. Pipl may also use embedded scripts, which are programming code designed to collect information about an interaction with a Web site, such as the links clicked on. The code is temporarily downloaded onto a device from our Web server or a third-party service provider, is active only while you are connected to the Web site containing the embedded script, and is deactivated or deleted thereafter.
Fraud Prevention SDKs and Device Technologies: Certain Customers may deploy third-party SDKs, device intelligence technologies, or similar embedded tools in connection with their use of the Services for fraud prevention, account security, identity verification, and abuse detection purposes. These technologies may automatically collect technical and device-related information such as device identifiers, operating system information, browser characteristics, IP address, network attributes, device telemetry, application interaction data, and indicators associated with fraudulent or automated activity. Information collected through these technologies may be shared with Pipl solely to support fraud prevention, cybersecurity, identity verification, risk mitigation, and related security functions. Such technologies are not used by Pipl for targeted advertising or unrelated consumer profiling activities.
We may use your Personal Information to:
Use of Artificial Intelligence. We use artificial intelligence technologies, including large language models made available by third-party providers, to support certain features of our Services. These include: (i) an AI-powered assistant within our Services that helps our Customers’ users summarize and analyze Pipl Data presented in response to their searches; and (ii) AI-powered analysis of a Customer’s own usage data, which is aggregated and anonymized before such analysis, for presentation to that Customer. The AI assistant within our Services is not provided with Customer Data. Our AI features are assistive only. They do not make decisions about any individual, do not produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning any individual, and do not create or modify any score or signal provided by our Services. Our third-party AI providers are contractually prohibited from using the information we provide to them to train or improve their models and are subject to limits on their retention of such information. We do not use inputs to or outputs of our AI features to train our machine learning models.
AI Tools Connected by Customers. Separately from the AI features described above, Customers may connect their own third-party AI tools, such as AI assistants, to the Services through a Pipl Connector. When they do, we process the resulting queries in the same way as other queries submitted to the Services and return our response to the Customer’s AI tool at the Customer’s direction. That AI tool is selected and controlled by the Customer and operated by its provider under the Customer’s own agreements. It is not one of our AI features or one of our service providers, and Pipl Connectors cannot access our AI features.
We set out below the purposes for which we process Personal Information. We indicate the categories of Personal Information per processing purpose. We will only process your Personal Information when we have a valid legal ground for the processing in accordance with applicable law, depending on the country in which you are located. However, please note that even though the chart below may not list consent as a legal basis for each processing activity, in some countries consent is the only or most appropriate legal basis for the processing of Personal Information, and in those countries we rely on consent for all processing activities. How Pipl Secures Your Data
Data protection is paramount, especially when it comes to private data. We safeguard data with multiple layers of security, including strict access controls, encryption, network security and other technical, administrative and operational procedures and policies.
Continue for more information on many of the security measures we have put in place.

Pipl is SOC 2 Type II compliant. We are audited annually. Please speak to your account representative to learn more and receive the full certification report.
Pipl production services are hosted in SOC 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR compliant data centers. We receive and review our providers’ reports and certifications annually.
Pipl handles personal information that may be used to identify individuals. Protecting this information is critical and we invest heavily to control access to it. Only authorized and trained staff have access to our data. We follow the “least privilege” principle: access to specific types of data is restricted based on business need, requires formal approval by the data owner (not to be confused with data subject), and is continuously logged and monitored. We require employees to complete multi-factor authentication (MFA) wherever possible.
As a cloud-based, identity trust company, we are acutely aware of the risks of operating on the internet. Thus, our network security is state-of-the-art and deliberately designed based on the zero trust concept. We monitor ingress and egress traffic, frequently test security measures and continuously improve our architecture to ensure that our networks are as secure as possible.
As a vendor for some of the largest companies in the world, our security measures are frequently assessed, and we do the same for our vendors. Our expectation is that our vendors will align with our security posture. If they have access to our data, we also expect them to comply with our privacy policy. This includes providers of artificial intelligence technologies that support features of our Services, which we also contractually prohibit from using data we provide to them to train or improve their models.
Pipl holds large volumes of data, most of which is personally-identifiable information (PII), by the definition of our services. We use industry-standard encryption for data in-transit and at-rest. Any type of data we don’t need is either deleted or hashed, based on business needs and our data retention policy.
Pipl is a software development company. We develop the applications to handle our data and deliver our services. If our applications are at risk, our service and business continuity are at risk.
We base our application designs and development practices on security and privacy principles from the ground up. Our developers follow secure development practices, such as OWASP Top 10. Our DevOps team continuously ensures that our environments are configured based on practices such as CIS (aka Center of Internet Security).
We continuously verify that we have successfully followed these measures with application and infrastructure penetration tests. We also monitor all systems using next generation technologies and a 24/7 team of Security Analysts.
Pipl invests heavily in securing the data we manage, whether owned by us or our customers. As data can reside in endpoints, we take great care to secure those endpoints.
All of our host servers, whether they are physically owned by us or belong to a third party such as a cloud provider, are protected by strict cryptographic controls. We follow the least privilege principle: access to our host servers is restricted based on business needs, and must be authorized prior to granting access.
The same is true of our employee endpoints (eg. laptops). They are all configured with full disk encryption, strong password policies and other mechanisms, to ensure they are kept safe and secure through their lifecycle. This includes deletion of the data when they are no longer in use, crypto shredding of encryption keys, etc.
All our hosts are centrally managed, continuously patched, and closely monitored for suspicious activities by either humans or automated processes. All activities are logged and monitored 24/7.
The Pipl Operations team has designed systems to keep our services running even if the underlying infrastructure experiences an outage or other significant issue. Every critical Pipl service has a secondary, redundant service running simultaneously, with mirrored data in a different data center than the primary server. Furthermore, each database server is continuously replicated in a third data center.
Our backup policy and operational process ensures that we can recover even if both of our primary data facilities become unavailable. We regularly create and store encrypted backups of our data at multiple offsite locations, further ensuring that we can recover in the event of a disaster that disrupts our service. Encrypted backups can only be decrypted by members of the Pipl operations team who have received training and have been authorized to decrypt the backups.
We constantly create live duplicates of our live database, and full product snapshots every 24 hours.
All backups are retained at the following locations:
Only authorized members of the Pipl operations team have access to the backup locations, so that they are able to monitor the performance of the backup processes, and take action in the very unlikely event that a restore becomes necessary.
Pipl’s employees also sign a confidentiality agreement when their employment begins. During their first couple of days of working for the company, they take part in our information security awareness training.
All of our employees and freelancers complete awareness training once a year, and periodically during company meetings.
We also perform drills from time to time, to test our staff awareness and alertness.
Pipl takes preventive and detective measures to physically secure our office facilities, and to keep our staff aware of the importance of physical security controls when working outside our premises.
Because Pipl uses cloud services, and those providers are responsible for their data center’s physical security, we take proper measures to ensure their level of security is aligned with ours. This is done by choosing the right vendors and also by annually re-assessing those vendors.
Pipl enables compliance with the GDPR when we process personal data on behalf of our customers.
The data protection framework in the European Union (EU) maintains the important distinction between controllers of personal data, and third parties that process personal data on behalf of controllers.
In delivering our services, Pipl is a processor, processing personal data (provided by our customers) on their behalf. The GDPR required us, and our EU customers as controllers or processors, to ensure compliance mechanisms and data protection measures.
If you are required to comply with the EU GDPR, please click here to review the Data Protection Addendum. If you have any questions regarding GDPR compliance or the Data Protection Addendum please contact us using this form.

Compliance Resources
Pipl operates as an identity resolution engine, so we collect multiple pieces of personal information from a large variety of sources that are already publicly available and make them available to our customers.
One way of collecting public information is scanning and indexing web pages, our deep search robot continuously crawls the web and extracts names, locations, age, facts and other relevant information from general web documents, personal profiles, public records, phone directories, blogs, news articles, scientific publications and many other types of pages - this data is then processed and indexed so it can be searched only by vetted business customers that have identified themselves and agreed to use such data solely for a legitimate, permissible purpose that Pipl has reviewed and approved before granting access.
Other ways of collecting information is licensing publicly available information such as phone directories, professional listings or scanning old public archives.
We always maintain high standards of ethics and compliance to ensure we follow every applicable law and regulation; regardless of the data sourcing method we use, we maintain a clear audit log for any data added to our service to ensure we can keep track of data source quality, licensing and regulatory changes.
